Nanjing Travel Notes (Part 1)

First Day

In July, the first summer vacation of graduate students, I should be invited by a friend of H in Nanjing to visit Nanjing. The high speed rail from Nanchang to Nanjing is really expensive, and the cost performance is not high. Originally, I was prepared to sit on a hard seat for a night, and finally I bought a berth ticket. Nanjing is the capital of the three provinces, the ancient capital of the Six Dynasties. The Qinhuai River has been a prosperous place in the south of the Yangtze River since ancient times. Now I am embarrassed and have a good time to travel.

The provincial capitals of the three provinces: In addition to Jiangsu Province, and because various services are radiated to Anhui Province, they are also dubbed “Huijing(the provincial capital of Anhui)”. At the same time, Nanjing is the capital of the Republic of China. After the government moved to Taiwan, it still remains. The Taipei phone number is still starting with 02.
The ancient capitals of the Six Dynasties: Wu (Three Kingdoms), Eastern Jin Dynasty, Song, Qi, Liang, Chen (the Northern and Southern Dynasties) have successively settled here, so it is said. Together with the Southern Tang, Ming, Taiping Heavenly Kingdom and the Republic of China, it is also known as the Ten Dynasties.

Arrivals

The Nanjing Railway Station has developed traffic and can be transferred to the subway without leaving the station. I went to have breakfast with the friend, H, who come to the train station to meet me.

Speaking of Nanjing, a famous snack, duck blood pudding and vermicelli soup can not be turned around. The first meal in Nanjing is the duck blood pudding and vermicelli soup & shrimp dumplings, although it is a fast food restaurant, but the taste is not bad. When I was having breakfast, H spoke to me. He was not used to Nanjing.Diet, campus environment, humanities, etc.

Ming the Imperial Palace site

After breakfast, H took me to the Park of Ming the Imperial Palace site. The park is not big, just a small piece. The green grass of the place represents the former palace, and several stone piers indicate the existence of the palace. Walking on the trail, thinking that the official also went to work in this way, the emperor walked from the palace to the building. .The former royal palace has become the current public park. I can’t help feeling inside，The ancient palaces, hall on hall, Are turned to dust, one and all ~~~

The Lunch - Nanjing big name file

As we approached noon, we went to Nanjing South Railway Station and took the T from Shanghai, and then went to Nanjing Impressions. To tell the truth, when H told me to eat at the “big food stall” in Nanjing at noon, I thought that as a person who had been in Nanjing for more than half a year, he took me to a local restaurant to eat authentic Nanjing taste. Well down. When I went there, I realized that the original name of the store was called Nanjing Impressions. I thought before that although it was a small Pai Dong, it had stations on the subway line. I guess it is a very famous and delicious restaurant. Lined up for a while, the decoration is still very good, there is a Chinese ancient style. The dressing of the waiter in the store is also an ancient dress.

But this dish, to be honest I can’t compliment it. Although it has been known before, Nanjing cuisine is sweet. I can accept pure sweet dishes like Sweet and Sour Mandarin Fish or Sweet and Sour Spare Ribs, but this kind of salty and sweet, salty and slightly sweet dishes I really can’t accept. In the middle of the bowl of Wangfu chicken is really mixed, sour, sweet, spicy, salty，in addition to bitterness. But I feel that the desserts here are not sweet enough, such as the sweet seedlings and the Madam Chiang’s Nutritious Beauty Porridge. But under this faint sweetness, the porridge is still very tasty and very fragrant.

After lunch at the big brand, I wanted to go directly to visit the Sun Yat-sen Mausoleum, but because I didn’t make an appointment in advance and the quota was full, I changed my itinerary to the Presidential Palace.

Nanjing Presidential Palace

Nanjing, modern history of China began here, ending here. In the presidential palace, I only thought that it was a rare historical relic of the mainland without a flag. After visiting, I realized that it has gone through four dynasties for more than a hundred years. It was used as the Governor of the Jiangnan Province (today’s Shanghai and Jiangsu, Anhui Province) and Jiangxi Province of the Qing Dynasty, the Tianping Palace of the Taiping Heavenly Kingdom, and the Presidential Palace of the Republic of China (during the Japanese invasion of China, as the headquarters of the 16th Division of the Japanese Army, and the government of the Wang Puppet is also here) to the Museum of modern Chinese history. The museum is separated by a fence, but it has been a cultural relic for a hundred years. A fence separates the museum and has become a cultural relic for no more than a hundred years. Since visiting the presidential palace, you can’t get rid of Chiang Kai-shek, perhaps for the united front. Here are some information and exhibitions about Chiang Kai-shek. Confucius temple, the Qinhuai River

After dinner, I visit Confucius temple.

I used to see this problem on Zhihu, the China’s quora. Nanjing Qinhuai River is mostly an ancient brothel, but why did the ancients built Confucius Temple and Examination Office in that place? How can we build cultural establishments and brothels in the same place ??, There was a shrewd answer:

In fact, it can be seen from this poem that during the Tang Dynasty, there was no Examination Office in Nanjing, and there were already geisha merchant activities. The Examination Office and the Study were indeed built later, so there was also a saying that “gentleman do not cross the Wende Bridge”.
